Become a Member Agency

Community Shares promotes responsive philanthropy through workplace campaigns that offer a broad range of choices and enable individuals to donate directly to organizations working to improve the quality of life.

Membership in this corporation is open to local, regional or statewide nonprofit agencies or organizations serving the Wake/Durham/Orange County community and Greater North Carolina whose purposes are to promote the overall quality of life in North Carolina. Membership is determined solely at the discretion of the Board of Directors. Community Shares operating expenses are funded through private donations and member agencies.

Agencies interested in membership must begin by submitting a letter of intent. After a complete application is received, the Community Shares Membership Committee will hold a brief information session with selected agencies. The Board of Directors votes to accept or reject the agency as a member.

Member Agency Responsibilities:

  • Appointing the appropriate number of representatives to serve on the Community Shares Board of Directors and attend meetings. Any Board of Directors member who has three unexcused absences in a calendar year shall be replaced by his or her member agency.
  • Responsibility to participate in annual worksite campaigns.
  • Active participation in gaining access to additional campaign sites.
  • Fulfilling additional membership requirements as may be identified by the Board of Directors or which are specified in the current memorandum of agreement between the agency and the Board.
  • Active participation in at least one Committee in addition to Access Committee.
  • Inform each Director that it is expected that they will support the mission of Community Shares by giving a financial donation to Community Shares, or to a Member Agency via a Community Shares workplace campaign.
  • Conduct a worksite giving campaign for the Member Agency's employees.
  • Display the Community Shares logo and/or name and acknowledge itself as a Member Agency on all appropriate Member Agency literature, advertising and press release
